To prevent major bone loss and continued support of your bite, it’s important for any missing teeth to be replaced as soon as possible after extraction or accidental tooth loss. At Highland Hills Dental in Kitchener and Northfield Dental in Waterloo, we offer denture and implant options to bet fit your specific dental situation.
Full or Partial Dentures
If you have few or no healthy teeth left in your mouth, then our on-site denturist might suggest you get a full set of dentures. However, if you only have a few teeth that need to be replaced, partial dentures might be a better choice for you. Partial dentures can then keep your natural teeth in place while protecting your exposed gums and bone to decay. During the denture fitting process, we’ll remove any diseased teeth and make a mould of your mouth. You’ll have immediate dentures to use as your mouth heals. In the meantime, we’ll create your permanent dentures so that they’ll be ready for you as the initial swelling goes down.
If you only have a few teeth that must be extracted, we might suggest dental implants as an alternative to partial dentures. Implants are not anchored to other teeth; instead, they’re connected to the bone under your gums through highly stable titanium anchors. Having them integrated into the bone structure allows for less chance of bone loss and they look and feel more like natural teeth than dentures. There’s also less chance of your other teeth getting damaged because the appliance won’t be rubbing against them.
Implants can also be used to make traditional dentures more stabilized. Our team can modify your dentures with a metal feature that connects to implant posts in your mouth. This allows the dentures to stay perfectly in place, let you eat and speak more comfortably.
